Top two questions I receive when I get a FAMILY PORTRAIT INQUIRY:
1. ARE YOU AVAILABLE?
2. WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
The first question I can't always guarantee a perfect answer for but the second is a question I have grown to love and take very seriously.
What your family is wearing for a family portrait session plays a HUGE factor in the success of your final artwork and although it can seem intimidating at first can be a very fun process...trust me.
Here are a few of my thoughts, ideas, and inspirational tips for preparing for the perfect family portrait session.
Make sure that your outfit choices are comfortable and make you feel amazing.
What do your dream family photos look like?
- If they are soft and elegant choose neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics…. think creams, very soft pastels, oatmeals, light browns, tans, grays, and slate blues.
- Want to showcase the fun and spunky side of your family? Choose coordinating colors (but not matchy, matchy) with bold accent colors, such as hues of gray with yellow, deep blue, or bright red accents.
Adding fun accessories like scarves, headbands, hats, etc. can add a splash of color and texture creating visual interest in your images.
I would recommend steering clear of bright clothing that might reflect color on faces, especially neons… these colors can change a person’s skin tone completely.
A simple search on the old 'goog tube' will give you so much inspiration!
